Sail On, Cap'n Tony!

CaptainTony

From cbs4.com - Key West residents are mourning the loss of a legendary former Key West bar owner and former mayor.

Anthony "Captain Tony" Tarracino passed away Saturday afternoon, according to his wife of 38 years. He was 92 years old and had been hospitalized for about a week with a heart and lung condition.

His wife and seven of his children shared stories in his hospital room shortly before his death. A viewing is planned for Friday evening in Key West, with a service scheduled for Saturday morning. A reception for family and friends at Captain Tony's Saloon will follow.

Captain Tony arrived in Key West from New Jersey in 1948. Ten years later, he purchased a bar on Greene Street, calling it Captain Tony's Saloon. The bar still has the name, though it was sold in 1989.

Captain Tony was a charter boat captain, gambler and a gun runner for Cuban mercenaries during the Bay of Pigs invasion. He served as mayor of Key West from 1989 to 1991.

He married four times and fathered 13 children. A film titled "The Cuba Crossing" recounts his story; Stewart Whitman played Captain Tony. He was also memorialized by musician and longtime friend Jimmy Buffet, in the song "Last Mango in Paris." Captain Tony also authored a book with Brad Manard, called "Life Lessons of a Legend."

Stuff-It for Buffett

phc_campaign

Help our very own Dr. Suzy Vergot make the ballot to run with Jimmy this year. Jimmy Buffett (through Margaritaville) has conducted a mock presidential campaign built on broken promises, half truths and lies in past election years. But Jimmy needs a running mate, and his running mate needs your votes.  Each dollar received represents one vote.

Trip Around the Sun - July 24th

Thursday, July 24th is our Trip around the sun party. Just thought I'd throw some directions out there for anyone who didn't know where Merv's was.  I will just go from downtown. Take 27N to the US-127 N exit, "also know as the Signal Mountain exit" . You will go through several traffic lights, then you will pass Kamatsu on your right, then Wal-Mart on your left.   Then you will pass a Burger King on your right, "if you are not you need to be in the right hand lane by this point." After the Burger King, at the next traffic light you will see where there is an "exit" where the right hand lane bears off to the right, this is where you turn onto Mountain Creek Road.  Merv's is at the bottom of the hill on your left, directly across the road from Pizza Hut.   Here is Merv's Address if you need it, 713 Mountain Creek Rd Chattanooga, TN 37405  (423) 877-0221.  If you get lost or need directions you can call me 779-8476.  If you pass a Subway on your right  YOU HAVE GONE TOOO FAR!!  Hope to see EVERYONE there.
Finz up!

Sumer Lake Party July 26TH

Hello everyone, Just wanted to give some directions to my parents house for the party. First off, the address is 6162 Clark Rd Harrison TN 37341. You take HWY58 North towards Decatur from HWY153. You go roughly 4 miles then turn left on Clark Rd. You go 1.3 miles to 6162 Clark RD. 6162 is on the mail box. IF YOU GO PAST CENTRAL HIGH SCHOOL, YOU HAVE GONE TOO FAR!
We are going to have a couple of pontoon boats there. Harry is going to sing Karaoke and there will be a big fireworks show after dinner. Beware of my cannon. Every now and then I pull the cannon out of it’s hanger and check to make sure it is working properly. Bring your own beer and food. We already have grills for you to use so all you really need is a chair, towel and floats for the lake or whatever. We will eat around 6.
See everybody at Mervs in Red Bank on Thursday night.

Thanks,

Chuck (Still recuperating from the Buffett Concert) Stevens

For the first time in a long time, we have pictures! Cass sent her pictures from the Rendezvous Beach Bash that the Panama City Parrothead Club threw in April.

You can look at them here. I hope you enjoy them!

BTW, If anyone else has any pictures from RCPH events, feel free to edit the titles (to make them more descriptive), and send them to me.

Bus Trip to the Atlanta Buffett Concert - Seats still available

Everyone knows that Jimmy is coming to town on June 5th. Here's the scoop on the concert, and the bus ride...

All of the club tickets have been claimed by members already. Sorry!

The club is getting a bus to take us down to the show, and bring us back safely. There are still about 6 seats left on the bus. The cost is $25 per head for a round-trip ride to see Buffett. If you already have your own ticket, but don't want to drive down yourself, these seats are open to anyone who would like to go with our group.

Details such as what time and location of the departure is still being finalized at this time, but we will post the info here as soon as we find out. But we are planning to have hot dogs, munchies, water, and some non-alcoholic beverages. We are also hoping to meet up with the Atlanta Parrothead club on the way down if they are planning anything. We met them last year on the way to Philips Arena and they were a fun, and very generous host to everyone at the pre-concert tailgate.

If you would like to tag along with the River City Parrothead Club to the concert, please contact K.C. Charland at kccharland@hotmail.com or admin@rivercityparrotheads.com.

Buffett is coming to Atlanta

Buffett has announced his tour dates and Atlanta is on the list. He will be playing on June 5th at the HiFiBuy Amphitheater in Atlanta. As our members already know, we have been offered reserved tickets for the show, at face value. These tickets are only available to club members in good standing, and with "coconut credits". All of the tickets for this year's show have been accounted for by our members.

If you are not a member already, and would like a chance to see Bubba for his next go-around in the area, download
the sign-up sheet, mail it in with a check, stay active (to get those coconut credits), and you may be lucky enough to get tickets to the show also.

AND if you haven't signed up for the Community Kitchen on March 1st, please do so.  If you can't make it to Bud's, please let Jewel know if you can volunteer your time and if you can't be at the Kitchen bodily, you can pledge a little $ to help defray the costs.  Cheryl will be going to Sam's to get all the things that aren't donated and are on Jewel's list.

For those who are going to the Kitchen and then Trop Rocks the Smokies right after, there is a one day deal that Bill Richardson is offering thanks to Jewel calling and getting a better price.  She suggests buying the ticket at the "door" and it will be $30.  The concert is being held at the host hotel, which makes things very easy.

I hope I haven't forgot anything, but I reserve the right to update this posting if we remember.

MySpace

By the way, Jamy (our new membership chair) has developed a myspace for RCPC,
