Sail On, Cap'n Tony!
From cbs4.com - Key West residents are mourning the loss of a legendary former Key West bar owner and former mayor.
Anthony "Captain Tony" Tarracino passed away Saturday afternoon, according to his wife of 38 years. He was 92 years old and had been hospitalized for about a week with a heart and lung condition.
His wife and seven of his children shared stories in his hospital room shortly before his death. A viewing is planned for Friday evening in Key West, with a service scheduled for Saturday morning. A reception for family and friends at Captain Tony's Saloon will follow.
Captain Tony arrived in Key West from New Jersey in 1948. Ten years later, he purchased a bar on Greene Street, calling it Captain Tony's Saloon. The bar still has the name, though it was sold in 1989.
Captain Tony was a charter boat captain, gambler and a gun runner for Cuban mercenaries during the Bay of Pigs invasion. He served as mayor of Key West from 1989 to 1991.
He married four times and fathered 13 children. A film titled "The Cuba Crossing" recounts his story; Stewart Whitman played Captain Tony. He was also memorialized by musician and longtime friend Jimmy Buffet, in the song "Last Mango in Paris." Captain Tony also authored a book with Brad Manard, called "Life Lessons of a Legend."
Paws In The Park
The River City Parrotheads walked in the Annual Dog Walk for the Humane Educational Society. We received a plaque from HES for being the largest team contributor to the walk. Below is the picture of K.C., our VP, getting the award.
Great Job by all the members contributing to this event.

Make sure you vote for “Cats Are Totally Special”
Sara Caperton is the very giving lady who runs C.A.T.S. Right now, Care2.com is running a contest to vote for your favorite animal shelter. The winner gets $10,000. Below is the image for the contest that you can click on to vote for Sara’s C.A.T.S. shelter right here in Chattanooga.
If you, or anyone you know, would like to help her adopt a cat, please let one of the board members know. (We don’t want to publish her home number over the Internet, which is all I have for her). If you wish to donate to the shelter they are always in need of:
Money – Anything will help for paying vet bills to cleaning and food.
Bounty Paper Towels – work the best for cleaning
Fantastic Cleaner
Lysol Disinfectant wipes
Friskies Can Cat Food – larger size cans for the number of cats she has (dry food she gets at cost from wholesalers)
Everything is Tax Deductible and she will mail out receipts to people she has names and addresses from that donate money or items.

Stuff-It for Buffett
Help our very own Dr.
Suzy Vergot make the ballot to run with Jimmy this
year. Jimmy Buffett (through Margaritaville) has
conducted a mock presidential campaign built on
broken promises, half truths and lies in past
election years. But Jimmy needs a running mate, and
his running mate needs your votes. Each dollar
received represents one vote.

how you can help Suzy with your
votes.

Sumer Lake Party July 26TH
We are going to have a couple of pontoon boats there. Harry is going to sing Karaoke and there will be a big fireworks show after dinner. Beware of my cannon. Every now and then I pull the cannon out of it’s hanger and check to make sure it is working properly. Bring your own beer and food. We already have grills for you to use so all you really need is a chair, towel and floats for the lake or whatever. We will eat around 6.
See everybody at Mervs in Red Bank on Thursday night.
Thanks,
Chuck (Still recuperating from the Buffett Concert) Stevens

Bus Trip to the Atlanta Buffett Concert - Seats still available
All of the club tickets have been claimed by members already. Sorry!
The club is getting a bus to take us down to the show, and bring us back safely. There are still about 6 seats left on the bus. The cost is $25 per head for a round-trip ride to see Buffett. If you already have your own ticket, but don't want to drive down yourself, these seats are open to anyone who would like to go with our group.
Details such as what time and location of the departure is still being finalized at this time, but we will post the info here as soon as we find out. But we are planning to have hot dogs, munchies, water, and some non-alcoholic beverages. We are also hoping to meet up with the Atlanta Parrothead club on the way down if they are planning anything. We met them last year on the way to Philips Arena and they were a fun, and very generous host to everyone at the pre-concert tailgate.
If you would like to tag along with the River City Parrothead Club to the concert, please contact K.C. Charland at kccharland@hotmail.com or admin@rivercityparrotheads.com.
Buffett is coming to Atlanta
If you are not a member already, and would like a chance to see Bubba for his next go-around in the area, download the sign-up sheet, mail it in with a check, stay active (to get those coconut credits), and you may be lucky enough to get tickets to the show also.

The monthly Birthday Bash will be at Bud's on
February 21st.
You have a SECOND chance to Drop your
Drawers!!! Jewel will still be collecting new
underthings for the Salvation Army homeless.
AND if you haven't signed up for the Community
Kitchen on March 1st, please do so. If you
can't make it to Bud's, please let Jewel know if you
can volunteer your time and if you can't be at the
Kitchen bodily, you can pledge a little $ to help
defray the costs. Cheryl will be going to Sam's
to get all the things that aren't donated and
are on Jewel's list.

It
is important to let Jewel know if you are going to
volunteer. Thanks.
For
those who are going to the Kitchen and then Trop
Rocks the Smokies right after, there is a one day
deal that Bill Richardson is offering thanks to Jewel
calling and getting a better price. She
suggests buying the ticket at the "door" and it will
be $30. The concert is being held at the host
hotel, which makes things very
easy.
I
hope I haven't forgot anything, but I reserve the
right to update this posting if we
remember.
